Abstract
Adolescents bring to the hospital questions and anxieties that differ from those of younger children, adults, or the aged. The unique physical and emotional needs of adolescents are best served in a setting where all those working with them are specifically attuned to the characteristics of teenagers. Grouping adolescents together in a unit has proved to be supportive to these patients and also helps in the planning of a multidisciplinary program for health care. Fragmentation of care is minimized, and the development of an effective health team working in an integrated therapeutic community is facilitated.
