Abstract
This paper discusses the relationship between structure, organizational power distribution, and the use of personal power in organizations and its effects on organizational effectiveness. Using Goulding and Goulding's (1978) “power is in the patient” analogy, managers are urged to stimulate the growth of subordinates' personal power in order to enhance individual and organizational effectiveness.
