Abstract

The activity of Travase against a number of protein substrates was measured in a model system in vitro. The enzyme shows high activity against casein and fibrin, lesser activity towards albumin and serum proteins and very little activity towards haemoglobin. The enzyme appears to have very little activity against a preparation of dermal collagen. This preparation was derived from whole skin by removal of noncollagenous elements of the skin by digestion with trypsin. The results suggest that the rate of removal of eschar by Travase will be proportioned to the fibrin content of the exposed surface.
