The forest area on the slopes of Mount Merapi, located in the northern part of Yogyakarta, has a lot of flora and fauna. One of the fauna that lives in the area is a long-tailed monkey (Macaca fascicularis Raffles 1821). Long-tailed monkeys eat lots of fruit and are grouped into frugivorous animals. However, long-tailed monkeys, such as leaves and flowers, will have more abundant food in their habitat. Therefore, this study analyzed long-tailed monkey feed to see the percentage of long-tailed monkeys who chose feed. In addition, phytochemical content analysis was conducted as supplementary data to determine the feeding preferences of long-tailed monkeys. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the plant species selected by the long-tailed monkeys in the Tlogo Muncar and Tlogo Nirmolo areas were Cinchona pubescens Vahl, Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit, Melastoma polyanthum Burm. f, Carex flaca and Sp 1. The plant parts that long-tailed monkeys ate were almost entirely leaves. Phytochemical tests on samples consisted of steroid, flavonoid, phenol, saponin, and triterpenoid tests.

Plasmodium inui is a type of malaria that is endemic in simian populations in Southeast Asia, primarily infecting nonhuman primates, one of which is Macaca fascicularis, or the long-tailed macaque. Plasmodium inui, a malaria parasite endemic to simian populations in Southeast Asia, predominantly targets non-human primates. The escalating rates of deforestation and urban expansion, which facilitate increased interactions between humans and primates, have intensified concerns regarding its zoonotic potential. Despite receiving comparatively less scholarly attention than P. knowlesi, P. inui is distinguished by its substantial strain diversity and capacity to infect various macaque species. This review investigates the potential for crossspecies transmission of P. inui to humans, concentrating on the regions of Indonesia and Southeast Asia. We evaluate the ecological and epidemiological determinants influencing the distribution and transmission dynamics of P. inui among macaques while also considering the implications for human infection based on a literature review obtained from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus. Although no documented human cases have emerged in Indonesia, cases in humans have only been detected in Malaysia and Thailand, the review underscores the zoonotic risk associated with P. inui, drawing comparisons to other simian malaria species that have successfully infiltrated human populations. The lack of systematic surveillance and detailed molecular investigations concerning P. inui in these regions accentuates the imperative for further scholarly inquiry. This review emphasizes the need for ongoing monitoring and research to enhance the understanding of zoonotic threats associated with P. inui, and informs future public health initiatives in Southeast Asia through a comprehensive evaluation of the genetic diversity of the parasite and its potential implications for public health.

Forest and land fires occur almost every year in South Sumatera Province, including at Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency, mainly due to uncontrolled burning activities. This region has the largest peatland responsible for the adverse haze impacts. The advent of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in early 2020 has triggered massive consequences across the global communities, including Indonesia. Therefore, large-scale regulations on social restrictions were enacted. The purpose of this study is to analyze the variations in hotspots as forest and land fire indicators before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in OKI as well as to determine the rainfall effects. Daily Terra/Aqua MODIS satellite feeds and rainfall data between January 2018 and December 2020 served as the research materials. Subsequently, the paired t-test and correlation assessment were used to examine the hotspot variations in both datasets, respectively. The results showed significant statistical differences before and during the pandemic. Consequently, social restrictions were assumed to instigate the decline in burning activities. Furthermore, the rainfall demonstrated a vulnerable correlation to the hotspots, indicating that human factor was more pronounced as a fire trigger.

In 2015, Southern Sumatra region, particularly Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) regency was stricken by massive fires in peatland and forest areas. Besides intentionally burned, climate change was also suspected as a cause of the wildfire. Increasing temperature, decreasing humidity, and low precipitation are several climate indicators that trigger forest and peatland wildfire. In order to review this presumption, the research needed to be conducted in Southern Sumatra area related to climate change until 30 years long period. So that the climate change can be detected from the climate indicator variabilities such as Temperature, Pressure, Total Precipitation, Relative Humidity, and Wind Speed.Climate parameter data in the long period was obtained from global atmospheric reanalysis data generated by ERA ECMWF (European Centre for Mid-Range Weather Forecast). The climate parameter data are available from 1979 to 2017. This research using three-hour interval climate parameter data. The trend analysis was conducted to observe the variability of every parameter using a linear regression method. The change of every climate parameter was spatially visualized to observe whether it had impacts on land and fire occurrences or not. From the analysis, it was found that all climate parameter was changing slightly per year. All climate parameters changed relatively small each year with increases in temperature 0.014 °C – 0.035°C/year and decreasing pressure 0.0138 – 0.0207 mbar/year. Relative humidity varies from decreasing 0.0311 to increasing 0.0458%/year. Wind speed also varies slightly from decreasing −0.0059 to increasing 0.0074 m/s/year. Their precipitation varies as well from decreasing 2.58 to increasing 5.15 mm/month. The alteration of these parameters indicates the climate change present slightly in southern Sumatra region, particularly in OKI regency, but does not affect land and forest fire occurrence.

Land disputes that often occur in Indonesia are disputes over land rights. Disputes over land rights occur in many places throughout Indonesia, both in remote villages and urban areas. Most of the problems that arise are related to land cases in the plantation sector. The case of land disputes in the plantation sector was caused by a sharp socio-economic gap between plantation entrepreneurs and residents living around the plantation area. One of the land rights disputes occurred between PT Selatan Agro Makmur Lestari (PT SAML) and residents of Tirta Mulya Village, Air Sugihan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. The research method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques are by means of interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings in this study were that in 2017, Komnas HAM RI successfully mediated mediation. Still, the results of the agreement failed to be implemented. Hence, in 2020 the residents of Tirta Mulya Village made another complaint to the Regional Land Office of South Sumatra Province because they rejected the results of the agreement signed by representatives of residents who did not give the power to represent the residents of Tirta Mulya Village. The recommendation of this research is to create an effective mediation model such as good communication, fairness in making agreements, integrity and good will from all parties.

Exposure to air pollution from peat fires causes serious environmental issues. Peat fires occurred frequently and emitted particulates in some areas in Indonesia, including South Sumatra Province. Hotspots were commonly found in several areas, notably during the dry season. Objective of this study aims to elaborate the association between wildfire and PM10spatially and the possibility of wildfire contribution to PM10 concentration during the 2019 dry season (June to October). The PM10 concentration, meteorological data (wind direction and wind speed), and hotspot data had been collected. To address hotspot distribution from peat fire and large scale of wind direction in South Sumatra, the spatial analysis was used meanwhile the meteorological and PM10 concentration were analyzed using RStudio by windrose and CBPF method. The provided PM10 concentration data had violated national ambient air quality standard for 11 days. The detected hotspot area was distributed dominantly in OKI (Ogan Komering Ilir) Regency. The CBPF result and spatial analysis were found that the most probable source was likely coming from South East to East direction. The source was predicted from OKI Regency with a big portion of hotspots area (>50%). The study showed a good probability (0.6) that the prediction of the hotspot in OKI Regency contributed spatially and statistically to PM10 concentration for receptor location in Palembang City.
