Abstract

The utility of flue gas in coal power plant was proposed to activate coke made from coal to prepare activated coke for in site SO 2 removal from flue gas. The effect of coal kinds, coal particle size, activation temperature and activation time were experimentally examined on the pore parameters such as pore volume and BET surface area with various model flue gas. The results showed that the activated coke prepared with flue gas activation at 800 °C was found to possess almost the same BET surface area, pore volume and SO 2 adsorption capacity as the activated coke by the activation with steam. The surface area and pore volume increased with the increase in the content of carbon, volatile and calcium oxide in coal.
