Abstract

The electrophoretic application of a quaternary ammonium derivative of bicuculline to single neurones in amounts adequate to prevent their inhibition by GABA delivered from another barrel of the electrode assembly, causes a marked enhancement of the excitation of the cells induced by acetylcholine. This effect is consistent with the report that bicuculline is active as an anticholinesterase.
