Abstract

s WE ARE ENJOYING a novel of the traditional kind, it does not seem to us that there is anything anomalous in its language, or that the statements constituting most of its text are of a deviant logical nature. It does not appear to us that these sentences have anything less than full referential force, nor that their apophantic power is reduced or nullified. Things, some fantastic and some ordinary, are spoken of in the novel in basically the same way in which ordinary or notable things are spoken of in historiographic or journalistic texts or in accounts of everyday life, that is, by describing and narrating them.
