Abstract

Further computations of the acoustic field in a solid elastic sphere have been carried out, using the solution to the wave equation boundary-value problem for an incident monochromatic wave. Previous computations have been extended to include the observation of transverse as well as the radial stress in the elastic medium. Special attention has been given to regions of focus (in the geometric limit) for both dilational and shear mode propagation. The results are of interest in analyzing the behavior of wide-angle underwater acoustic lenses.
