Abstract

According to Greek mythology, Achilles' mother, Thetis, immersed him in the River Styx to provide him with its reputed powers of invulnerability. As the legend goes, Thetis held Achilles by the heel that was not in contact with the waters and later the site of his mortal wound.1 According to Merriam-Webster, the term Achilles' heel is not used in medicine; instead, it is only used with the general meaning “weak point.”2
