Abstract

BackgroundsIn persistent cloaca (PC), the vagina, urethra, and rectum are fused together in the pelvis, creating a common channel (CC). CC length, short or long will determine the definitive surgery and can be evaluated preoperatively using radiological studies. But to our knowledge currently, there were limited studies discussing the use of ultrasound (US). The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of ultrasound in CC length measurement compared with intraoperative endoscopy. MethodsThis study was analytics observational with cross-sectional design in 16 patients with cloaca. The sample was obtained by consecutive sampling from January 2015 until April 2022 in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital. CC length was measured preoperatively using US and intraoperatively using endoscopy. ResultsFrom 16 PC patients, short CC (<3 cm) measured with both US and endoscopy were 12 patients (100%), and short CC measured by US with long CC (>3 cm) measured by intraoperative endoscopy were 3 patients (75%). Long CC measured by both US and endoscopy was found in 1 patient (25%). Based on the diagnostic test result, ultrasound sensitivity was 99%, specificity was 25%, positive predictive value (PPV) was 100%, negative predictive value (NPV) was 25%, and accuracy was 75%.
