Abstract
The integration of computer or Internet into the traditional classroom teaching is now prevalent in every aspect of teaching and learning activities in 21st century. Among the application of technology into all the subjects, the CALL(Computer-Assisted Language Learning) has particularly caught tremendous attention from both language teachers and learners worldwide. This paper will review the evolution of CALL--the developing of drill-and-practice to interactive software, the innovating of authoring programs, the pervading of internet approaches and the general application of CALL in Taiwan. It will also discuss how language teachers and learners embrace this new era-the roles of teachers and learners, the barriers they will encounter. Some suggestions will be provided for improvement for adaptation the CALL for both teachers and learners. Furthermore, based on students' language capabilities and computer experiences, an application of CALL will be designed according to the Kolb's experimental model. Eventually, after the accommodation of new technologies and ways of thinking, we hope the experience of computer assisted language learning will foster life-long learning for both teachers and students.
