Abstract

After giving a graphic illustration of the meaning of the concept, “accelerating pace of change”, the author then proceeds to argue that the only way that humans can accommodate themselves to change is through education: initial education and continuing life‐long education. Yet the spiralling cost of traditional higher education is increasingly unaffordable. The solution is the application of the new information and communication technologies to higher education through creative alliances and partnerships between higher education institutions and entrepreneurs working in the domain of information and communications. The market for higher education is so large and still constantly expanding that the education vectored by the new means of communication will simply enter new markets, not take away from traditional providers.
