Abstract

The history of our country's Academy of Sciences dates back 250 years. "We are proud of our Academy of Sciences," stated L. I. Brezhnev, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. "It is surrounded by the attention and solicitude of the Party and the people. It is unstinting and devoted in its service to our country and to world civilization. The greatest attainments of our country's science and scholarship [nauka] that have promoted the advancement of our motherland are directly associated with the activities of the USSR Academy of Sciences." Today the USSR Academy of Sciences is the acknowledged headquarters of Soviet science; it has flourished at a level hitherto unknown and has at its disposal all the progressive bequests of scientists of the past.
