Abstract
Present study was conducted to analyse the abundance of thrips on vegetables plantation in the lowlands and the highlands region of Jambi. A survey was carried out in vegetables plantation of the region of Jambi. total 34 species of plants were surveyed and sampled on the highland as well as plants that are in the lowlands. Thrips from each study site were collected and then taken to the laboratory for identification. Thrips species were collected in 70% alcohol. Identification of thrips species was conducted in the laboratory of the Biology FKIP Jambi University. The study from highlands revealed 7 species of thrips of which four (4) species were of the suborder Terebrantia namely; Thrips parvispinus, Thrips palmi, Thrips hawaiiensis, Megalurothrips usitatus, and 3 (three) of sub order Tubulifera namely; Haplothrips sp., and species 1 and species 2. Identification results obtained from various locations in the lowlands survey found seven species of thrips; four (4) species of the suborder Terebrantia namely; Thrips parvispinus, Thrips palmi, Thrips hawaiiensis, Megalurothrips usitatus, and 3 (three) of the suborder Tubulifera namely; Haplothrips sp., Species 1 and Species 2. Thrips were most commonly found in the plant family Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae. Thrips parvispinus was found most widely spread on all types of plants in the highlands and lowlands of Jambi.
