Abstract
The abundances of ions formed by successive elimination of carbon monoxide from the parent ion of complexes of the type LL′[Fe 2(CO) 6], where L and L′ are three-electron donor ligands, may be used as structural identifiers in some cases. The variation in this so called “fingerprint” caused by changes in L and L′ is discussed in terms of ion stability and changes in electronic configuration.
