Abstract
In the 60s and 70s, the Region of Aachen experienced a serious decline of its traditional industries: textile, coal and metal production. Nearly all such enterprises went out of business. The economic recovery of the region has been based on new emerging technologies, e.g. information and automation technologies. Furthermore craft enterprises have gone and are going through a period of innovation. Additionally several enterprises have successfully been established which are in particular socially and environmentally oriented. One main actor of these developments has been the University of Technology (RWTH). In this presentation, a few examples of the co-operation of the university with the regional enterprises are described.
