Abstract

It has been shown that a sequence of Hermitian codes can be found by use of the results of algebraic geometric (AG) codes which generalise the original construction of the Reed Solomon (RS) codes. As an example of good codes within this class of codes van Lint and Springer claim that for any practical channel that, the specific AG code, namely the (64,32,27) Hermitian code, has considerable advantage over the corresponding (16,8,9) extended RS code. The (64,32,27) Hermitian code and its application in fading channels is discussed.
