Abstract

Abstract Portugal may seem an unlikely place to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the neutron, but that was the excuse for a gathering at the University of Coimbra on 27–29 July. The link is actually through Prof. Luiz Alta da Veiga, the organizer of this fine meeting, and his connection as a graduate student 30 years ago with Jane Brown (now at the ILL, France) and Bruce Forsyth (ISIS, Rutherford Lab., UK) at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge.
