Abstract

Pilots must respect the helicopter’s flight envelope to ensure flight safety. The technological limitations of engines and transmissions as well as the constraints linked to environmental conditions fluctuate constantly during flight. The instruments installed in the cockpit have evolved over time to simplify the pilot’s workload. Based on the analysis of the root causes of accidents, this article highlights the interest of continuing to explore new technologies to provide the crew with more reliable alerts anticipating the approach of these limits. Examples are presented foreshadowing what information will be used in the years to come and how it can be calculated in real time.
