Abstract

The ( 3He, p) reactions on targets of 54Fe, 56Fe and 58Fe have been studied at a bombarding energy of 15.08 MeV. The angular distributions of the outgoing protons were measured from 3.75° to 86.25° by means of a multiangle magnetic spectrograph. The energy resolution was about 28 keV. A common, absolute cross-section scale was established from data obtained with a target containing equal amounts of the three Fe isotopes. Thirty-eight excited states were observed in 56Co below 6.6 MeV of excitation, forty excited states were observed in 58Co below 5.8 MeV and eighteen excited states were observed in 60Co below 4.7 MeV. Empirical rules were used to assign L and J π for a large number of final states in the three doubly odd Co nuclei. The possible fragmentation of the ground-state isobaric-analogue strength in 56Co is discussed on the basis of ( 3He, p) and (t, p) cross-section data.
