Abstract

Angular distributions of the ( 3He, α) neutron pickup reactionon 25 Mg(J π= 5 2 +) leaving the final nucleus 24Mg in its ground-state rotational band ( K = 0; J π = 0 +, 2 +, 4 +) have been measured at an incident energy E( 3 He) = 33.0 MeV . The striking similarity between the shapes of the three observed angular distributions suggests a pure l = 2, j = 5 2 transition to the two excited states, as for the ground state. Relative spectroscopic factors have been extracted by DWBA calculations. The results were compared with previous experiments in which the neutron pickup from 25Mg was investigated by means of the (p, d) and (d, t) reaction and with values calculated from the rotational model. The elastic scattering angular distribution 25Mg( 3He, 3He) at 33 MeV has been measured and analysed in terms of an optical model.
