Abstract
In the absence of any official audit, Library RFID Ltd has, at the invitation of the former Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), been running an annual survey to determine the extent and direction of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) adoption in the United Kingdom. In 2012 the survey was extended to a wider market with the assistance and support of organizations in the USA and Australia – and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA). The study revealed that the technology is being used in a variety of different ways in different markets and that the use of standards is relatively rare, resulting in a rather confused and confusing picture for would-be investors to interpret. Some of the more significant findings are presented and discussed.
