Abstract

The American Institute of Steel Construction is introducing a new standard in 2005 entitled, Specification for Structural Steel Buildings . This document will unify the two design methods presently used for steel design in the United States, allowable stress design (ASD) and load and resistance factor design (LRFD), into one standard which will restore the uniformity and clarity originally intended for the AISC specification. In addition to this unification, the entire document has been reorganized and updated where necessary.
