Abstract
The 1992 General Conference of the Condensed Matter Division of the European Physical Society held in Praha between April 6 and 9, 1992 was the 12th in this conference series. More than 600 participants from more than 25 countries took part in this meeting. The scientific talks were presented by invitation in plenary and three parallel sessions. In the poster sessions about 600 papers were presented. In addition, there was a plenary talk from one of the joint Hewlett-Packard prizewinners, Professor H Ibach. An exhibition of scientific instruments and books was also organized, this year with a pronounced presence of the Commission of the European Communities and an ESPRIT workshop was included in the programme of the Conference. The proceedings contain all the accepted plenary and invited lectures whose authors complied with the deadline forsubmission of the manuscripts. The editors paid special attention to a prompt publication of the proceedings in order to enable all the conference participants and those who were not able to attend the meeting to benefit from the information presented during the conference. The invited talks were brought together under six broad headings in the proceedings and cover practically the entire field of condensed matter physics. The abstracts of the posters were published elsewhere, in Europhysics Conference s volume 16A.On behalf of the Conference organizers I wish to thank all who contributed to the conference proceedings for theircooperation and assistance, generous contributions from Sponsors is greatly appreciated. I also thank the members of the International Programme and Advisory Committees (see PDF) for suggestions and preparation of the scientific programme of theconference. The immense work of members of the Organizing Committee (see PDF) is also acknowledged.
