Abstract

The author outlines the background to the decision to hold an international conference on the protection of the North Sea, and reviews the results that may realistically be expected. He explores the possibilities of achieving progress in pollution control in relation to the discharge of substances from land-based sources; discharges at sea; atmospheric pollution; and the monitoring of coastal waters and the high sea.
