Abstract

The geographic position and a delicate balance of forces in international politics, have made it possible for Yugoslavia to achieve an independence of action which has been denied other Central European nations. In 1949 Stalin attempted to destroy Yugoslav independence by excommunication and expulsion from the communist community. The result of the effort was the creation of a communist state which was independent alike of Moscow and of the capitalist West-one which was free to undertake t-he erection of a socio-economic system different from either of the traditional prototypes.
