Abstract

Merapi has bean in the past hundred years one of the most active volcanoes of Java. During this period it has had three outstanding eruptions which have been followed by intervals of somewhat diminished but nearly continuous activity. Domes were extruded during these intervals and were destroyed when the major eruptions took place. The surface of these domes was covered with large blocks of lava. The recent eruption took place during November and December of 1930; it reached its climax on December 19.
