Abstract
The article deals with one of the earliest prints of the Kyiv-Pechersk Typography, the Paterykon (1635), written by Sylvestr Kossov, an associate of Metropolitan Peter Mohyla, bishop of Mogilev, Orsha and Mstislav and future Metropolitan of Kyiv (1647-1657). Based on text analysis and comparison with other texts conclusions are made about the specificity and originality of the work and the intellectual orientation of its author. In particular, the article gives a full systematization of the sources used by Kossov, being a contribution to the exploration of early modern theological discourse, especially under the specific conditions of the contact zone between Eastern and Western Christianity. Questions like the purpose of the 1635 Paterykon, its hagiographical, polemical and historiographical narrations are also raised.
