Summary

Introduction

Two premier annual conferences in the field of magnetism—the Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (MMM) and IEEE International Magnetics Conference (INTERMAG)—are united as the Joint MMM-Intermag Conference, with the goal of bringing together the complementary, yet overlapping, scientific and engineering communities active in the broad spectrum enveloping basic and applied science and technology related to the field of magnetism and magnetic materials. The venue, located in the vibrant Woodley Park neighborhood, just north of Dupont Circle and close to the National Zoo, was not new to the magnetism community as the 2010 Joint MMM-Intermag Conference had been held there.1 The conference, jointly sponsored by AIP Publishing and the IEEE Magnetics Society, attracted 1300 registrants, 39% of whom were students.
