Abstract

The α-transfer reaction leading to the ground state of 212Po is examined using a new model of α-decaying states and a modified DWBA which takes account of the model description of the final state. It is shown that the transfer data confirm the results from the study of α-decay and hence that it is possible to give a consistent description of α-decaying states in heavy nuclei without recourse to R-matrix theory and arbitrary radii. The spectroscopic factors are not consistent with the conventional shell-model approach.
