Abstract

The author calculated the thawing degree days (>0°C) over Hokkaido from the normals of daily mean temperature. Then, he drawed the isopleth of sum of thawing degree days at the end of every decades of month, counting from 1 st. January. As the normals are not satisfactory statistical data, for the purpose of planning various industries as well as flood control, he showed the fluctuations in long range averages of the thawing degree days of every decades, their standard deviations, observed maximum, minimum and others for Sapporo, covering the last 30 years, as a sample. Degree hours (>0°C) are also significant, especially when the daily mean temperature exceeds not 0°C. Degree hours at Sapporo (covering the last 10 years) also studied.
