Abstract
I would like to formally thank the Reviewers, Associate Editors, Editorial Board and Feature Issue Editors for their advice and guidance with regard to the manuscripts submitted for publication in Volume 38 of Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics. Apologies for any errors in placing reviewers into the regional categories used below, which was based on e-mail addresses or web searches. When developing this ‘thank you’ editorial I am always impressed by the very high quality of the international experts listed, especially given that reviewers are all very busy and successful researchers who review papers without any remuneration, asked to perform it within a short time period, and do all of this all on top of their normal day job! It highlights the remarkable dedication of researchers in our field. Given the huge time and effort that researchers take to provide some very high quality reviews, the editorial board agreed last year that we should specifically acknowledge reviews that are exceptional. This acknowledgement is given to only a few of the most knowledgeable and helpful reviews of the many manuscripts sent to OPO and approximately the top 5%. For 2018 Topical Editors indicated that the following researchers provided reviews that were exceptional: Associate editors take over the editorial process for papers that are in their area of expertise and for papers submitted by myself or any of my colleagues and/or collaborators. They also advise on invited reviews and feature issues. Members of the editorial board provide similar advice and also help to determine whether papers should be provided with a full review. Our current Associate Editors and Editorial board are listed on our website and on the inside cover of the hard copy of the journal. I thank them very much indeed for their support. I would particularly like to thank several members of the team who took over all editorial duties during my recent illness: Jeremy Guggenheim, Joanne Wood, Mark Bullimore, Arthur Bradley, John Lawrenson and David Whitaker from the Associate Editors and Editorial Board and Martin Cordiner and Brooke Sperry from the College of Optometrists research team. This support, well above and beyond the call of duty, was greatly appreciated. Finally, I would like to thank the feature issue editors for our special issue in 2018: Nicola Logan, Jeremy Guggenheim and Chi-ho To (May 2018 issue, Myopia: mechanisms, manifestations and management). David B Elliott Editor-in-Chief, Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics and Professor of Clinical Vision Science, Bradford School of Optometry & Vision Science, University of Bradford, UK.
