Abstract

The Society of Plastics Engineers together with the broader polymer science and engineering community and the current editors of Polymer Engineering and Science and Polymer Composites would like to express their immense gratitude to Professor Robert (Bob) Weiss for his many years of dedicated service to the editorship of Polymer Engineering and Science and Polymer Composites. After nearly 25 years of service, either as Associate Editor or Editor-in-Chief of both journals, Bob has elected to step aside and pursue other professional activities. Bob has served as Editor-in-Chief for Polymer Engineering and Science for 16 years, and Polymer Composites for 15 years. Over the entire 62 year history of Polymer Engineering and Science Journal only three other editors have preceded Professor Weiss. Professor Melvyn A. Kohudic oversaw the editorship when it was called SPE Transactions. Professor Eric Baer provided editorship from 1968 to 1969. Professor Roger Porter served as both Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Polymer Engineering and Science for 27 years (1969-1996). Professor Robert Weiss started serving as Associate Editor with Roger Porter in 1987. The first issue of Polymer Composites Journal was introduced in 1980 by Professor Porter (Editor) and Professor Richard Ball (Associate Editor) with 4 issues per year. In 1986 the number of issues increased to 6 per year. In 1988 Professor Robert Weiss was also appointed as an Associate Editor of Polymer Composites and by 1998 Professor Weiss was appointed Editor-in-Chief of both Journals. Since Bob's appointment as Editor-in-Chief, both journals have shown healthy growth with increased submission publication rates. Currently, both journals publish 12 issues per year and receive nearly 1000 manuscripts per year each for consideration. Professor Alan Lesser has been appointed the new Editor-in-Chief of both journals and Professors Donald Baird and Scott Case have been appointed Executive Editor and Associate Editor of Polymer Composites Journal. Professors Sadhan Jana and Donald Baird also remain as Associate Editors of Polymer Engineering and Science Journal.
