Abstract

Growing complaints Speaking at a government policy forum on how to improve services for older people, a senior minister in Thailand's Social Development and Human Security Ministry told of a growing number of complaints about nursing care. Ubon Limsakul called for standards to be set. According to Dr Nonglak Pagaiya, an academic at the Human Resource for Health Research and Development Office, there are 97,972 registered nurses in the country, less than one quarter of whom are taking care of older people. Dr Siriphan Sasat of the Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Nursing called for the establishment of a national level committee to tackle problems relating to the care given to the older people.
