BRIEF SESSION DESCRIPTION: At George Mason University, immersive learning is part of the fun at Th3 BuilD! Embrace your inner nerd and join Instructional Technologists Jim McLean and Michelle Verneman for a hands-on encounter with some of Mason’s resident 3D technology tools. Get inspired to pump up your pedagogy by discovering new ways to create immersive learning experiences with virtual reality, augmented reality, 360 video, and more! Participants will be able to experience immersive technologies and list several possible educational and research applications for their discipline. ____________________________________________________________ FULL ABSTRACT: We will provide brief overview presentation (20 min) of several immersive technologies currently available to students and faculty for experimentation and course support at the collaborative learning hub's 3d learning space, Th3 BuilD . topics discussed will cover Virtual Reality (non- and semi immersive vs. full immersion), Augmented Reality, 360° Video capture, and digital capture (photogrammetry) with 3d Printing. For the remainder of the workshop attendees will interact with the technologies via 5 immersive hands on stations: Non-Immerssive VR (Leap Motion), VR & 360° content (VR Headsets with various applications), AR (Blippar and Aurasma), 360° cameras (with a 360 livestream of the workshop), and a Makerbot FDM 3d Printer and ReCap Photo workflow in process. 2 Instructional technologist will be on hand to answer specific questions and describe how the technologies can be used across disciplines. Participants will be able to experience immersive technologies and list several possible educational and research applications for their discipline.
