Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to apply DEA method for evaluating the operational performance of Taiwan's Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display (TFT-LCD) industry from Q1of 2002 to Q3 of 2005. The input parameters include fixed asset, cost of development, man resource, and operational cost. The output parameters include turnover and profit before tax. Both CCR and BCC models are adopted in this study. The CCR model can be used to investigate overall operational efficiency. The BCC model can be applied to investigate pure technical and scope efficiency. From the result of analysis, the ranking of TFT-LCD companies is complied with real operating performance, which means the bigger the TFT-LCD company the better the performance. For technical and scope efficiency, the input resource can be further improved. This study not only provides guidance for evaluating the efficiency and the performance but also gives some suggestions for TFT-LCD industry.
