Abstract

The thermal behavior of the spindle prototype of high speed precision machine and cooling response of Thermoelectric cooler (TEC) have been investigated. Thermal behavior indicates the degree of production accuracy. It was found that temperature of the spindle increases with rise in its rotational speed that causes thermal error. In order to minimize the thermal error, compensation of spindle temperature is essential. In the Simulation of temperature compensation of spindle of machine tool based on fuzzy logic using simulating tools of Matlab, it is obligatory to estimate the Transfer function (TF) of thermal behavior of spindle and system cooling unit. TF include the nature of the heat transfer principles. Hence the experimental parameters can be calibrated easily also the model is reliable with untested inputs. This paper focuses on the estimation of first order TF of spindle temperature and thermoelectric cooler (TEC-12706) with dead time and thermal behavior analysis of spindle and cooler unit at different rotational speeds. The transfer function has been estimated using real time temperature response of spindle. The simulation model was developed for the verification of estimated transfer function. Simulation and measured results are compared and demonstrate good accordance.
