Abstract

Patients frequently present to the emergency department (ED) with facial wounds and dental complaints. The ability to effectively and safely anesthetize the face and mouth is a key skill for emergency physicians. A curriculum to develop these skills is frequently lacking in many residencies. We created a training instrument aimed to 2 learner groups. The primary group is the emergency medicine interns and ED midlevel providers, who in our learner-analysis typically did not receive any formal didactics in facial anesthesia prior to residency or employment in the ED.
