Abstract
Our school is located in a city which has a traditional craft industry of producing very thin foils(leaf) of gold, brass, silver and aluminum. This leaf is used for ornamental purposes. Leaf is produced by a pack and hammering method, in which sheets of metal and paper are alternately packed and beaten by a hammer. This method can produce foils as thin as 0.5~m. To cast a scientific light on this traditional technique, we have studied the texture of beaten aluminum leaf. To our knowledge, no study has been reported on the texture of hammered leaf. Thus, we believe that the present study will also offer useful data for compilation in the field of the texture development.
