Abstract

Postmodernist theories and attitudes integrated with art therapy practice can increase the clinical application of art as healing. The purpose of this paper is to encourage art therapists to broaden their interpretive ideology utilizing the postmodernist view. This perspective incorporates societal issues, narrative approaches, and multiculturalism thus enriching the art therapy process. Case vignettes from clinical practice and current literature are paired with postmodernist applications, illustrating the potential expansion of client opportunities for interactions with society through participation in the creation of art with others.
