Abstract

The distribution patterns of textural parameters and heavy mineral suites along the Abu Qir Bay beach were discussed. On the western side of the bay the beach sediments are relatively more coarse, less sorted, more negatively skewed and more enriched in heavy minerals than other parts of the bay. These sedimentological characteristics were attributed to reworking of the relict bottom sediments of the old Canopic Nile branch whose mouth is considered to be related to that part of the bay.
