Abstract

Paraguayans have several textiles that they consider to be Paraguayan in essence and distinct from the textile traditions of Latin American, and especially from the neighboring countries of Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia. These include ponchos, blankets (wool and cotton), cotton fabric, fajas (girdle sash), flecos (fringes), linens, encaje ju (lacis or net darning), ao po’i (embroidered cloth), and nanduti (Tenerife, sol , or rueda lace).
