Abstract
AbstractTetrapyridine‐beryllium polyiodide [Be(py)4]2(I3)2(I4) (1) was prepared from beryllium powder and iodine in pyridine suspension to give brown crystal plates, which were characterized by X‐ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy. 1 crystallizes monoclinically in the space group C2/c with four formula units per unit cell. Lattice dimensions at 100(2)K: a = 2044.1(1), b = 1524.5(1), c = 1843.8(1)pm, β= 103.65(1)°, R1 = 0.0301. The structure of 1 consists of distorted tetrahedral dications, triiodide ions without site symmetry, and centrosymmetric linear tetraiodide ions.
