Abstract

In the title compound, [Ca(C12H8N2)4](ClO4)2·2C9H11NO, the Ca2+ cation (site symmetry 2) is coordinated by four bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) molecules, resulting in a square-antiprismatic CaN8 polyhedron for the metal ion. Two disordered perchlorate ions (Cl site symmetry 2 in both cases) and a 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde molecule complete the structure. A large number of π–π stacking interactions involving the phen aromatic rings [centroid separations are in the range 3.667 (6)–3.907 (7) A] help to stabilize the structure. The O atoms of the perchlorate anions are disordered equally over two sites each.
