Abstract

1. 1. A case of probable tetanus occurring in an American soldier previously immunized with three doses of fluid tetanus toxoid is reported. 2. 2. Tetanus under favorable conditions for bacterial growth, i.e., shock, extensive tissue destruction, hemorrhage, etc., may develop before any rise in the circulating antitoxin level from the stimulating dose of toxoid is obtained. 3. 3. It is suggested that in. all cases of shock, severe blood loss, extensive tissue damage, etc., tetanus antitoxin be administered to supplement active immunization.
