Abstract

For baryon resonances with 9 2 ⩽ J ⩽ 19 2 a set of tests are proposed for the spin assignment. The tests are relations between the sums of squares of the even- L statistical-tensors t L M and the target polarization for the reaction M + B (P) → M + B ∗ , and are extensions of an earlier result. In addition we show how these relations can be used, when J is known, to test the dynamical assumption that all helicity amplitudes for the reaction have the same phase, this without a polarized target and without observing a parity-violating decay.
