Abstract

The combined intake of social (moderate) doses of alcohol and marijuana resulted in a significant incidence of severe nausea, vomiting, autonomic nervous system lability, behavioral impairment, and intense psychological distress in our subjects. Although this syndrome is self-limiting, it could be dangerous for some individuals under certain conditions, e.g. , in the presence of cardiac or central nervous system disorders. The “self-titration” of marijuana is not always safe, even with moderate doses ofalcohol. The mechanism of this interaction is not known and no treatment for the adverse reaction is available at the present time.
