Abstract

From the radiation budget equation of the earth-atmosphere system it follows that in case of a certain linear relationship between the albedo and the outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) variations, the radiation budget value remains unchanged. The possibility of testing such linearity, dependent on the averaging scale of satellite data, is considered. A criterion for testing the radiation budget sensitivity to cloud variations in mesometeorological scale is treated. The sensitivity in global scale is estimated by means of cross correlation between the monthly mean variations in the global radiation budget and the effective cloud amount data.
