Abstract

Continuous supercritical CO2 emulsion extraction (SEE-C) technology is proposed for the first time to test the encapsulation of two fatty acids: Stearic acid and isopropyl myristate, to be used as model Phase Change Materials (PCM) in a PMMA shell. Spherical microcapsules with smooth surface and a mean diameter between 163-431 nm have been produced. Encapsulation efficiencies larger than those in the literature and up to a max of 91 % were measured. Therefore, supercritical PCM encapsulation can open new perspectives in thermal energy storage application.
