Abstract
Duality diagrams relate the backgrounds in different meson-baryon channels, after subtraction of all resonances. One such prediction, K +p = π +p (background), works remarkably well experimentally. In other channels with less complete experiments, future phase-shift analyses will now be able to calculate the background instead of fitting it. This should greatly improve the determination of Y ∗ resonances.
